OSP handling Ken Ofori Atta’s case lawfully and appropriately – Maadi

Ofori-Atta, who is being investigated in connection with several high-profile corruption cases, was recently declared wanted again by the Special Prosecutor.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team in the Navrongo Central constituency, Carl Maadi, has defended the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) amid ongoing investigations into former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Ofori-Atta, who is being investigated in connection with several high-profile corruption cases, was recently declared wanted again by the Special Prosecutor after failing to appear for a scheduled interrogation on June 2.

A medical report purportedly explaining his absence has been circulating on social media, citing health issues as the reason for his failure to return to Ghana.

However, speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, June 6, Carl Maadi questioned the legitimacy of the document, raising doubts about its origin and relevance to the legal process.

“The letter on Ken’s health was not addressed to the OSP, so why should the OSP act on it? His lawyer should have the hospital write directly to the OSP. I believe the document that was shared online was cooked to manipulate the process,” Maadi said.

He argued that the OSP has acted appropriately and within the law in handling the matter, dismissing suggestions of political bias or procedural misconduct. Maadi emphasized that the law must be respected regardless of an individual’s political affiliation.

Maadi also referenced the recent arrest of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Wontumi was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with separate investigations.

According to Maadi, internal party politics within the NPP contributed to delays in Wontumi’s release.

“NPP was shooting itself in the foot. They didn’t want Wontumi out. Garry Nimako knew the legal strategy he was pursuing in court wouldn’t result in Wontumi’s release that Friday,” he said.
