Kassena-Nankana NIA resumes instant issuance of Ghana Cards
Kassena Nankana Municipal Manager of the NIA, Rafiatu Kumuriwo, assured residents that the supply issues have been resolved, and applicants will now receive their Ghana Cards on the spot upon completing the registration process.
The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Office of the National Identification Authority (NIA) has resumed the immediate issuance of Ghana Cards to applicants following registration, ending a period of delays caused by a nationwide shortage of blank cards.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday, July 24, Kassena Nankana Municipal Manager of the NIA, Rafiatu Kumuriwo, assured residents that the supply issues have been resolved, and applicants will now receive their Ghana Cards on the spot upon completing the registration process.
“There was a shortage of blank cards, not just for the Navrongo Municipal office, but the entire nation, so because of this, we found it difficult to issue ID cards.”
“But for now, when you register for your Ghana card in the office, you get instant issuance, let’s say approximately a day, with all things being equal in the office.” She confirmed
The Ghana Card, which serves as the national identity card, is a critical document required for accessing various public and private services, including banking, SIM card registration, among others.
Kumuriwo also revealed that the NIA in Kassena-Nankana is exploring possibilities of embarking on community outreach initiatives aimed at distributing uncollected cards from the mass registration exercise that took place during the introductory years of the Ghana card.
She noted that the Kassena Nankana Municipal office of the National Identification Authority currently has over two thousand uncollected Ghana cards in its stores, urging registrants to visit the office for their cards.
“We have over 2,000 uncollected cards in the office, and this figure is not just for the period in which we were not issuing out cards because of a shortage of the blink cards, but this problem is from the mass registration era. The goal is to move to some of the communities, especially the far ones, to do community issuance.”
Residents who have registered but have yet to receive their Ghana Cards are encouraged to visit the NIA office in Navrongo or attend one of the upcoming community distribution exercises.
