NPP’s Abongpaari slams NDC over contradictions in presidential jet debate
Abongpaari said members of the NDC have lost the moral grounds to make a definite case on the matter because of the strong position they took against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s use of private jets during his tenure.
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Vincent Alhassan Abongpaari, has taken a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the ongoing debate on the purchase of a new presidential jet.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, August 27, Abongpaari said members of the NDC have lost the moral grounds to make a definite case on the matter because of the strong position they took against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s use of private jets during his tenure.
According to him, some leading NDC figures, including North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, consistently criticized President Akufo-Addo for chartering private jets for official assignments.
“We are happy that the president gave the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and once that name is mentioned, you know he was someone who said there was no need for President Akufo-Addo to use private jets for official duties.” Abongpaari said.
He argued that the NDC cannot now turn around to suggest the purchase of a new presidential aircraft without acknowledging the contradictions in their past statements.
“I am happy my sister is saying that the president is the number one gentleman of the country and should always be counted above anything. In the days of Akufo-Addo, what didn’t we hear them say? Whatever we do or say has an effect on the future.” He added.
Despite his criticisms, Abongpaari stressed that the purchase of a new presidential jet is necessary, insisting that the current aircraft has long been unfit for purpose.
“We need a new presidential jet then and now because we said in government that the presidential jet was not fit for purpose.”
