2026 budget cosmetic and repetitive — NPP’s Chiana-Paga Constituency Secretary

Kwalase sharply criticized the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing it of failing to deliver on key initiatives outlined in the previous budget.

Thomas Kwalase, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Secretary for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, has described the 2026 Budget presented by the Finance Minister as “cosmetic,” arguing that it merely recycles unfulfilled promises from the 2025 financial year.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, November 21, Kwalase sharply criticized the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing it of failing to deliver on key initiatives outlined in the previous budget.

“We saw a literal repetition of what was presented last year. There is nothing new, and I understand why. For the past 11 months, nothing substantial has happened apart from the usual launching of programmes.” He said.

Kwalase cited the Feed Ghana Project, an initiative announced in the 2025 budget to support farmers with essential inputs such as fertilizers, as an example of the government’s unfulfilled commitments. He questioned claims by the Finance Minister that fertilizers had been distributed nationwide.

“In the last budget, they were supposed to procure fertilizer for farmers. He mentioned during this year’s budget presentation that they have distributed fertilizer, but we are all here in Navrongo, has government brought any fertilizer through the Feed Ghana initiative? Absolutely not.” He stressed.

Kwalase further expressed disappointment over the exclusion of the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital’s upgrade from the 2026 budget. According to him, residents had hoped the facility would be elevated to a teaching hospital status.

“I was eagerly waiting to see the upgrading of the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital captured in the budget, but unfortunately, there was no show.” He lamented.
