The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Akibange Aworigo, has officially broken ground for the construction of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Gaani, a project aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for residents.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Aworigo thanked chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and community members for attending and supporting the initiative. He explained that the new facility would replace the current structure, which he described as inadequate for the size and needs of the community.
“The community is too big to have this as a CHPS compound. We need a bigger and better place to take care of our people. The health of a nation is its wealth.” He said.
According to the MP, the project follows appeals from community leaders who formally requested an upgrade of the facility. He revealed that after receiving their petition, he approached the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority for support, which resulted in the provision of resources for the construction.

“As a Member of Parliament, I will dedicate part of my health fund to complete the project to bring it to the standard that we need. It is my role to continue supporting communities when it comes to healthcare.” He noted.
Aworigo further urged residents to take collective responsibility for protecting materials and equipment on site, stressing that community vigilance was essential to prevent theft and ensure the project’s success.
“You live here every day. If you see somebody taking something away, ask questions. It is for the community. You are the community.” He cautioned.
The Chief of Gaani, Akemyela Adoba also welcomed the project, describing it as a major relief to the community and expressing gratitude to the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central for spearheading the initiative.
“The community of Gaani is very grateful and delighted for the commencement of this project,” he said, while also thanking the Municipal Chief Executive and health workers for working with the MP to make the ceremony successful.
The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Edmund Nyanwura, also commended the MP for the initiative, describing the construction of the CHPS compound as a key milestone in improving primary healthcare delivery in the municipality.
“The building of the CHPS compound is one of the 15 steps that we have in the CHPS implementation, and one of the seven milestones.” Dr. Nyanwura said.
