The Upper East Regional Coordinator for the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) Programme, Daniel Achaab Adams, says feeding challenges that previously affected schools in the region are seeing significant improvement, with institutions receiving their required food supplies.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, April 20, Adams noted that while some challenges persist, the situation has markedly improved over time.
“When it comes to feeding, there are challenges, but there has been significant improvement with regard to the supply of food to the various schools.” He said.
According to him, all 18 food items designated for distribution to schools under the programme have been delivered across the region, easing pressure on school authorities.
Adams also disclosed that government and relevant stakeholders are actively engaging to resolve delays in the release of funds meant to settle outstanding arrears from previous academic years.
These funds are expected to support schools in procuring perishable food items to complement existing supplies.
He emphasized the need for collective responsibility in addressing challenges within the education sector, cautioning against the politicisation of critical issues.
“Let’s not play politics with our education. When we do that, we end up not solving the substantive issues at hand. When educational challenges are resolved, it will benefit all citizens, irrespective of their political colours.” He urged.
The Free SHS programme remains a flagship policy aimed at expanding access to secondary education in Ghana, with ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, funding, and student welfare across the country.
