The Paga Youth Movement (PAYOM) has commended President John Dramani Mahama and his government for what it describes as key interventions aimed at supporting the development of Paga Senior High School and addressing other longstanding development challenges in the area.
In a press release, PAYOM expressed gratitude for the completion and commissioning of the Paga Senior High School E-Block on August 13.
The youth group also welcomed the government’s commitment to grant the school full boarding status from the next academic year, construct girls’ and boys’ dormitory blocks, and provide a 60-seater school bus.
According to PAYOM, it has consistently advocated for these interventions over the years, particularly the completion of the E-Block, the granting of full boarding status to Paga SHS, and the reconstruction of the girls’ dormitory which was destroyed by fire in 2021.
The group further expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment to addressing the persistent water crisis in Paga and surrounding communities, completing the Agenda 111 hospital project, and reconstructing the collapsed Navio Bridge.
PAYOM said the interventions were critical to improving access to essential services, strengthening connectivity and promoting the socio-economic development of communities in the area.
The group, however, called for renewed attention to the construction of an inland port in Paga to address the increasing challenge of heavy-duty trucks and inadequate parking facilities.
It said the growing number of trucks travelling to neighbouring West African countries and parking along the shoulders of the principal road in Paga had implications for road safety, traffic management and the movement of people and goods.
PAYOM therefore proposed the expansion of the Paga transit park onto land allocated for the inland port project as a sustainable solution to the challenge, while creating economic opportunities for residents.
The youth movement said it remained hopeful that other pressing development projects and government commitments would receive the necessary attention under the government’s Resetting Ghana Agenda.
It also assured President Mahama and his government of its continued support and constructive engagement in efforts to address the developmental needs of Paga and the wider Upper East Region.
PAYOM said it remained committed to advocating for interventions in education, healthcare, infrastructure and employment opportunities to improve the general well-being of the people of Paga.
