Residents of Manyoro in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality have been urged to take full advantage of the government’s Free Primary Healthcare initiative to safeguard their health and promote early detection and treatment of diseases.
The call was made during a community sensitisation meeting organised by the Information Services Department of the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly at the Manyoro Health Centre on Friday, September 25.
Speaking to the residents, Information Officer for the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly, Joyce Baze, explained that the initiative was designed to make basic healthcare services accessible to all without financial barriers.
She said the initiative prioritised access to healthcare at the primary level, with a focus on the early detection and treatment of common illnesses.
“The initiative prioritises accessing healthcare without any cost at the primary level and focuses on early detection and treatment for common illnesses,” she said.
Baze said the initiative, which was launched by the government in April and subsequently introduced in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality, was intended to help address some of the healthcare challenges confronting Ghanaians.
She therefore urged residents to make full use of the services available under the initiative at Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and health centres.
According to her, the services include blood pressure checks, cervical cancer screening, maternal and child health services, mental health screening and menstrual hygiene education, among others.

“These services are absolutely free and you don’t need to pay for anything,” she emphasised.
Baze also urged residents to enrol onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), explaining that it would help facilitate access to healthcare services, particularly when patients required referrals to major hospitals.
She further encouraged residents who encountered challenges while accessing primary healthcare services to contact the dedicated helpline on 054 444 6447 for assistance.
She said collective participation in the initiative would help improve access to basic healthcare and promote healthier communities.
