The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Pre-Tertiary Education Teachers Association (PRETAG) in the Upper East Region have declared their support for their respective national leaderships over the ongoing industrial action by teacher unions.
The three unions said they fully support the decision by their national mother unions to embark on the industrial action declared on September 25, until their concerns are addressed.
They made the position known at a press conference held at the GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga on Thursday, October 1.
Addressing the media, the unions reiterated concerns that they said had led to the nationwide industrial action by the teacher unions.

Among the concerns are the failure to automatically place newly promoted teachers on their appropriate salary scales and pay their outstanding arrears, the non-implementation of deprived-area allowances, and delays in the negotiation of the collective agreement, among other issues.
The unions said the continued delays in addressing the concerns had left teachers with no option but to support the industrial action initiated by their national leadership.
They therefore called on teachers in the region to remain out of the classroom until the issues are resolved.
“The call for the industrial action, which we, the Upper East branches strongly support, should continue until our demands are met,” the unions said.
