Asurayaga lauds Mahama’s media engagement, says it’s a step towards accountability
The engagement, which will be broadcast live on Mike 105.3 FM, will be the first media engagement of President John Dramani Mahama’s second term in office.
Angelina Asurayaga, a communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, has commended President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to engage the media.
The engagement, which will be broadcast live on Mike 105.3 FM, will be the first media engagement of President John Dramani Mahama’s second term in office.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday September 10, ahead of the scheduled Presidential Media Encounter at 8:00 p.m, Asurayaga said the initiative would give the President an opportunity to account to the Ghanaian people.
“This will deepen our democracy because, as a democratic country, you should let the public know what you are doing in the position given to you. As a party, we have done a lot and need to let the Ghanaian public know.” She stated.
Asurayaga highlighted that since assuming office eight months ago, the NDC government has been instrumental in “resetting” the Ghanaian economy. She cited stabilisation of the cedi, improvements in electricity supply, and recruitment of young people under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) as notable achievements.
“When we took over government, the cedi was doing really badly. We came through with our policies, we saw some appreciation that led to a reduction in goods and services, though it is beginning to depreciate again.”
“Also, YEA have employed a lot, and with electricity, we have managed it better. Even with galamsey, though we have not stopped it, we have made gains.” She added.
