Chief of Bavogonia Calls for Unity and Peace in Pungu to Spur Development

The Chief urged all stakeholders—chiefs, elders, youth, and residents—to work together in harmony and avoid actions or rhetoric that could compromise the peace of the area.

The Chief of the Bavogonia Traditional Area, Pe Adatugah Parebajea Abayage Anankware III, has made a clarion call for unity and peace among the people of Pungu, emphasizing that these are essential pillars for the community’s progress and development.

Speaking at a press conference held at his palace in Pungu-Bavogonia, the Chief urged all stakeholders—chiefs, elders, youth, and residents—to work together in harmony and avoid actions or rhetoric that could compromise the peace of the area.

“The peace and development of Pungu rest solely on our shoulders. We must not allow any form of division to derail our progress,” he stated.

The press engagement came in the wake of the successful outdooring of newly enskinned sub-chiefs in parts of the Pungu enclave. The move, which marks a significant milestone in the traditional administration of the area, has sparked public debate, with some questioning its intent.

Pe Abayage Anankware III, however, dismissed suggestions that the enskinment process was designed to sow discord. He clarified that the initiative is part of a legitimate, long-established effort to elevate specific traditional areas into paramouncies—a process currently overseen by the Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area.

“The initiative is inclusive and intended to foster growth and development across all beneficiary communities,” the Chief noted.

He also took the opportunity to caution the youth and the general public against making inflammatory remarks that could breed division.

“We should be building our communities rather than causing divisions and disunity with our statements,” he advised.

The event was attended by elders of the Bavogonia Traditional Area, the newly outdoored sub-chiefs, and the Landlord of the Pungu Traditional Area. Pe Abayage Anankware III expressed heartfelt appreciation to all who participated in the ceremony and those who continue to support the forward march of Pungu.
