CKT-UTAS NUGS thanks Navrongo MP, others for supporting science outreach programme
The initiative was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical classroom instruction and real-world scientific practice. It aimed to spark curiosity and inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, and innovation.
The President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) at the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS), Abukari Samuel Tiyumba, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Akibange Aworigo, for his unwavering support towards the union’s recent outreach initiative aimed at promoting practical science education at the basic school level.
The outreach programme, held on June 27 at the CKT-UTAS campus, brought together Junior High School (JHS) students from across the Navrongo Municipality for an engaging and hands-on experience in biology, chemistry, and ICT, many of them for the very first time in a university laboratory setting.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, July 9, Tiyumba stressed the significant role Aworigo played in making the event a success.
“We thank Hon. Simon Akibange Aworigo, MP for Navrongo Central, for his immense contribution. We cannot thank him enough,” he said.
Tiyumba also extended appreciation to other key stakeholders who contributed to the planning and execution of the outreach.
“A lot of people contributed, especially with the planning and execution of the programme. I must thank the Vice Chancellor of the university, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, deans, and lecturers who participated or supported us in making it a reality,” he added.
The initiative was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical classroom instruction and real-world scientific practice. It aimed to spark curiosity and inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, and innovation.
Teachers who accompanied the students praised the programme as both educational and transformative, while students expressed excitement at using laboratory equipment and engaging in experiments they had only previously read about in textbooks.
NUGS at CKT-UTAS has affirmed its commitment to organizing similar outreach events in the future, emphasizing its dedication to supporting basic education and nurturing the next generation of scientists, innovators, and technologists in the municipality.
