EC boss behaves Like an NPP women’s organizer – NDC communicator

The NDC has consistently questioned the neutrality of the Electoral Commission under Jean Mensah’s leadership, and Abada’s remarks are the latest in a series of criticisms aimed at the electoral body.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, Mercy Abada, has added her voice to growing calls for the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah, and her deputies.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, July 2, Abada accused the EC Chairperson of exhibiting partisan behaviour, stating that her public posture reflects that of a political actor rather than an impartial electoral referee.

“The EC boss behaves like the National Women’s Organizer for the NPP in most of her public utterances. If you look at her posture, she is more of an NPP Women’s Organizer than the EC Chairperson for Ghana, which is a sharp contrast to the conduct of her predecessors,” Abada stated.

Abada cited several issues to support her position, including the controversial disenfranchisement of residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) in the 2020 parliamentary elections. According to Abada, the EC’s decision denied the people of SALL parliamentary representation and was indicative of a broader pattern of bias and high-handedness.

She also referenced allegations of financial irregularities and public statements made by EC officials, particularly Deputy Chairperson Dr. Bossman Asare, as further justification for the calls for their removal.

“Bossman Asare was once heard saying the NDC was a bad example for the country’s democracy. How can Ghanaians trust the EC when its officials openly make such partisan remarks?” she asked.

She argued that such conduct undermines public confidence in the Commission’s ability to conduct free and fair elections.
