Ensure mining communities benefit from mining companies – Nyeya to Mahama
His call comes after President Mahama indicated that he will partner with mining companies in the region to construct the Upper East regional airport based on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) module.

Nyeya Yen, a Member of the Social Justice Movement and an Advocate for Responsible Mining, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to engage mining companies in the Upper East region to ensure mining communities benefit from their exploration.
His call comes after President Mahama indicated that he will partner mining companies in the region to construct the Upper East regional airport based on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) module.
Nyeya, in an exclusive interview with Mike 105.3 FM, urged the President to rather focus on ensuring mining communities get a fair share of the mining wealth.
“The President and the Regional Minister should be talking about engaging the mining companies for a bigger share of the wealth for mining communities and Ghana that they are extracting and not enabling them to take the wealth away,” Nyeya stated
He, however, agreed that a PPP module is good for the construction of the airport but cautioned that should mining companies contribute to the construction of the airport, the government should wholly control and manage the airport.
“Though a PPP module is good for the construction of the airport, I don’t like the emphasis on also engaging mining companies to take away the gold.” He added.
