Joseph Aminini, Chief Research Assistant at the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, has encouraged the public to view farming as a business venture with numerous benefits.
Speaking on community development program Timaligo Sosega on Mike FM on April 3, 2025, Aminini emphasized that farming has become a lucrative business in Ghana.
Aminini discussed the importance of preparation for the farming season, highlighting that farmers often fail to plan, resulting in post-harvest losses. He stressed the need for farmers to create a calendar for each farming season, ensuring they are prepared to commence farming activities promptly.
Aminini also underscored the significance of crop selection, as it determines the type of crop to cultivate during a particular season. He explained that different crops have varying maturation periods, ranging from two and a half to four months, necessitating careful planning.
While acknowledging that farming can be lucrative, Aminini noted that it comes with challenges, including anthropogenic factors (caused by human negligence) and natural disasters. He advocated for adaptive measures to overcome these challenges.
Aminini emphasized the importance of planning in farming, highlighting the need to secure land, fertilizers, and seeds ahead of time. He also stressed the importance of clearing land, particularly removing plastic waste, before the rains begin, to ensure a bumper harvest.
Aminini urged farmers to always prepare thoroughly before the rains set in, emphasizing that farming can be a profitable venture with proper planning and execution.
