Faustina Akeyom Abulu rejected as Kassena-Nankana MCE nominee

The confirmation process, conducted by the municipal Electoral Commission, was supervised by the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri, and Upper East Regional NDC chairman, Mumuni Bolnaba.

Fautina Akeyom Abulu, President John Mahama’s nominee for Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kassena-Nankana Municipality, has failed to secure the required majority for confirmation by the assembly.

At the voting session held on April 29 at the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Hall, Abulu, who currently serves as the Navrongo central Constituency Women’s Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), polled 14 votes out of 50, representing 28% of the valid votes cast. She was overwhelmingly rejected by 36 votes, accounting for 72%.

The confirmation process, conducted by the municipal Electoral Commission, was supervised by the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri, and Upper East Regional NDC chairman, Mumuni Bolnaba.

Abulu’s rejection marks her as the second nominee in the Upper East Region to be turned down by assembly members, following the earlier rejection of Martin Ariku Akudugu in the Binduri District.

With her candidacy now in limbo, the decision to renominate her—or select a new nominee—rests solely with President Mahama. Until a successful nomination and confirmation take place, the Kassena-Nankana Municipality remains without a substantive MCE.

In a related development, the assembly successfully elected Christopher Atiisi, the Assembly Member for the Atosale/Azaasi Electoral Area, as its Presiding Member after two rounds of voting.
