GHS Director General donates essential medical items to Navrongo War Memorial Hospital

The donation is part of the health ministry's campaign to combat Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in the Northern, North East, Upper West, and Upper East regions.

The Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, has donated essential health equipment and medications to the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo.

The donation, being part of the health ministry’s campaign to combat Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in the Northern, North East, Upper West, and Upper East regions, was made on Friday April 4, 2025.

The Director General also made a similar presentation at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga.

Making the presentation at the War Memorial Hospital, Professor Akoriyea emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between healthcare providers, chiefs, the media, and opinion leaders to prevent CSM related deaths.

He attributed the high fatality rate of meningitis to delays in seeking medical attention and the lack of finances to purchase prescribed medications.

“The ministry has come up with a plan to make donations to every region involved, ensuring no patient pays for meningitis medication,” Professor Akoriyea explained.

He cautioned hospital staff against selling donated drugs to private retailers and healthcare providers.

The donation, valued at GHC 220,000, included an oxygen concentrator, CPAP machine, pulse oximeters, bedsheets, nose masks, surgical gowns, antibiotics, among others.
