Gov’t shuts down Bawku-based Gumah FM
The directive follows recommendations by the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) who have raised urgent national security concerns.

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has directed the immediate shutdown of Bawku-based Gumah FM Station.
The directive follows recommendations by the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) who have raised urgent national security concerns.
The REGSEC on February 11, 2025, extensively reviewed recent security developments in Bawku and parts of the North East Region at an emergency meeting and made the recommendation.
A statement from the Ministry said intelligence gathered showed that Gumah FM Station was engaged in using its platform to incite violence, disrupt public order, and escalate tensions in the region.
The further said the directive to shut down the station is issued in accordance with Section 13(1)(e) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which empowers the National Communications Authority (NCA) to suspend or revoke frequency authorisations in the interest of national security, public order, or the public interest.
Following the directive, Gumah FM is expecetd to cease all operations with immediately.
