ICOUR and BonAgro Ghana explore partnership to support farmers in project area

Anarigide appealed to BonAgro Ghana Limited to consider offering ICOUR farmers the opportunity to purchase machinery on a discounted and flexible credit arrangement, enabling them to own equipment through installment payments.

The Irrigation Company of Upper Region (ICOUR) Monday, September 8, 2025, hosted a delegation from BonAgro Ghana Limited to explore possible avenues for partnership aimed at supporting farmers within the project area.

BonAgro Ghana Limited, a multinational company with expertise in agrochemicals and modern farm machinery, expressed interest in working collaboratively with ICOUR to enhance mechanized agriculture in the region.

The company deals in a wide range of farm equipment, including combine harvesters, tractors, transplanter crawlers, and rotovators, among others. The high-level engagement focused on developing mutually beneficial cooperation strategies to improve farming outcomes for project farmers.

During the meeting, the Managing Director of ICOUR, Dominic Anarigide lauded BonAgro’s commitment to agricultural development. He also highlighted the persistent challenges facing farmers in the area, particularly the lack of reliable access to modern farming machinery.

Anarigide appealed to BonAgro Ghana Limited to consider offering ICOUR farmers the opportunity to purchase machinery on a discounted and flexible credit arrangement, enabling them to own equipment through installment payments. This, he said, would significantly boost productivity and reduce farmers’ dependence on external support during the farming season.

In response, representatives from BonAgro Ghana Limited expressed readiness to support the initiative. They assured ICOUR management that interested farmers will indeed be granted access to acquire the needed farm equipment on credit, with a structured installment payment plan tailored to the farmers’ financial capacity.

The strategic public-private partnership marks a promising step by the new ICOUR management towards mechanizing agriculture across the project area to improve livelihoods. Both parties are optimistic about the potential impact of the collaboration and agreed to further discussions to finalize implementation modalities in the coming weeks.
