It is wrong not to prosecute foreign illegal miners in Ghana – NDC Communicator
Abuga believes foreign illegal miners should be tried and prosecuted in Ghana and those from Asia and Europe given stricter punishment compared to Ghanaians and other Africans caught in the act.

Benjamin Biadana Abuga, a member of the communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, has opposed the government’s decision to prosecute foreigners involved in illegal mining in their home countries.
Abuga believes foreign illegal miners should be tried and prosecuted in Ghana and those from Asia and Europe given stricter punishment compared to Ghanaians and other Africans caught in the act.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday April 11, 2025, Abuga expressed that that the NDC’s approach to handling the illegal mining menace must be different from that of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“It is proper we deal with these Chinese in Ghana here, otherwise, the picture will be created as if the NDC and NPP are the same, it is clear that John Mahama’s regime is not business as usual, he means business to turn the tides around to put the country in the right place,”
“For a government to undertake investigations, arrest and confiscate equipment and deport them, it is very good, it can only be better if they are tried and possibly even jailed in Ghana.” Abuga emphasised.
He added that the Mahama administration has shown commitment to addressing the galamsey menace since taking over office in January through initiatives including the Ghana Gold Board to regulate the sector, restoring four forest reserves and suspending the issuance of mining licenses.
