Kassena-Nankana West DCE pledges to champion youth involvement in governance

Akurugo outlined his priorities which focus on key areas including agriculture, health, road infrastructure, education, security, and youth empowerment.

The newly confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kasena Nankana West, Stephen Aeke Akurugo, has pledged to advocate for increased youth participation in governance and leadership throughout his tenure.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, Akurugo described his appointment as both a challenge and an opportunity, highlighting the broader implications it holds for young people aspiring to serve in public office.

“I want to leave a legacy that will serve as a reference point for the youth, so that appointing authorities will continue to believe in the capabilities of young people,” he stated.

Akurugo acknowledged the weight of expectation that comes with his role, noting, “My appointment has put the youth in a risky position. If I fail, it could be used as an example against appointing young people. But I am determined to succeed and be a good reference point.”

Outlining his priorities, the DCE said his administration will focus on key development areas including agriculture, health, road infrastructure, education, security, and youth empowerment.

He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his nomination and thanked Assembly Members and other stakeholders for their support throughout his confirmation process.

Calling on the public, especially the youth, Akurugo urged unity and active participation in his vision to bring sustainable development to the district.
