Mahama nominates MMDCEs for Eight Regions

The list includes MMDCEs for the Volta, Oti, Ahafo, Bono, and Bono East regions. The rest are the Savannah, North East and Western North regions.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the nomination of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for eight Regions.

This is the first batch of nominees from the Mahama administration.

The list includes MMDCEs for the Volta, Oti, Ahafo, Bono, and Bono East regions. The rest are the Savannah, North East and Western North regions.

The President’s nomination is in accordance with article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and 20 (1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936), which requires the President to nominate Chief Executives for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

The nomination of the MMDCEs was contained in a letter from the Presidency, dated March 26, 2025, to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

In all, 71 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives have been nominated covering the eight regions. The nomination for the  Kpando District in the Volta Region, however, remains pending.

The President’s nomination is subject to approval from the respective District Assemblies.
