Mahama’s “Feed Ghana” initiative key to food security – NDC’s Priscilla Vawurah
As President Mahama's election promises transition into policy discussions, the initiative is expected to be a central talking point in the NDC’s development agenda moving forward.
Priscilla Khadi Vawurah, a member of the communications team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Navrongo, has expressed strong confidence in President Mahama’s Feed Ghana initiative, describing it as a transformative plan to revitalize Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday April 30, Vawurah said the initiative is built on Mahama’s vast leadership experience and commitment to addressing food insecurity through strategic and sustainable agricultural policies.
“President Mahama has all the experience and, having observed all that happened in the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative under the NPP, he decided that let’s do it differently and properly under Feed Ghana,” she stated.
Vawurah criticized the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Planting for Food and Jobs program, labeling it as a poorly executed policy marred by corruption, lack of inclusiveness, and unsustainable planning. She argued that the NDC’s approach under the Feed Ghana agenda offers a more holistic and effective solution to the country’s agricultural challenges.
According to her, the Feed Ghana initiative will focus on three major pillars: boosting food production, ensuring food security, and enhancing agro-processing through a reliable supply of raw materials. She also highlighted the program’s practical framework, including targeted budgetary allocations and regional farm centers to provide farmers with critical inputs such as fertilizer.
“Farm centers will be strategically placed in the various regions and districts to make farm inputs available to farmers, including fertilizer,” she said.
Vawurah urged Ghanaians, especially the youth and women, to seize the opportunities the initiative presents to improve their livelihoods and contribute to national development.
The Feed Ghana initiative is part of the NDC’s broader strategy to modernize agriculture, reduce food imports, and build a self-sufficient economy through rural empowerment and investment in local food systems.
Improving agriculture sector was one of the key campaign promises of the President Mahama. As the promises transition into policy discussions, the initiative is expected to be a central talking point in the NDC’s development agenda moving forward.
