The Municipal Health Promotion Officer cleared that though there are some suspected cases under investigation in the laboratory, most of them have turned out negative.

The Health Promotion Officer of the Ghana Health Service in the Kassena-Nankana Municipal, Jacob Agusika has said reports that the Upper East Region has recorded cases of Meningitis following an outbreak in some parts of the country, are untrue.

The Municipal Health Promotion Officer cleared that though there are some suspected cases under investigation in the laboratory, none of them has turned out positive.

“In the entire Upper East Region, we have not yet recorded any case. Though we suspected some through our surveillance. We took samples for testing, and most of them came negatively and some of them are still in the process of being tested”

He cleared the air in an interview with David Adapuna on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday February 6th, 2025.

while he urged the public to not be alarmed, Agusika advised residents to be sensitive to their wellbeing and pay attention to preventive measures to avoid getting into contact with the deadly meningitis virus.

He said some of the signs and symptoms of the disease are sudden fever, headache with other accompanying symptoms like neck pains, convulsions in children, vomiting, among others.

He, therefore, urged people who experience these symptoms to quickly report to the nearest Health facility for medical attention.

He also encouraged regular handwashing with soap under running water to protect oneself from coming into contact with viral meningitis.
