MMDCEs: Young Urban Women’s Movement urges approval of two female nominees in UE/R
Zoogah urged members of the district assemblies to unanimously approve the nominations, emphasizing the nominees' capabilities and potential to outperform their male counterparts.

The Young Urban Women’s Movement in the Upper East Region is pushing for the approval of two female nominees for Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs).
Faustina Akeyom Abulu and Anne Musah, nominated for the Kassena-Nankana Municipal and Builsa South District Assemblies, respectively, are the only women among 15 MDCE nominees in the region.
The group’s chairperson, Dorcas Zoogah, speaking to Mike FM expressed concerns about the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions, describing the appointment of only two women as “unfair” and indicative of a lack of commitment to implementing the Affirmative Action Law passed in 2024.
Zoogah urged members of the district assemblies to unanimously approve the nominations, emphasizing the nominees’ capabilities and potential to outperform their male counterparts.
“I want to urge both district assemblies, please give these women the support, trust them because I know they can do much better than some men have done.”
“Please give these women the support, and it will surprise the remaining 13 districts the results these two women will bring on board.” She appealed.
The Young Urban Women’s Movement has been actively advocating women’s rights and empowerment in the region. Their efforts focus on providing skills and capacity-building training for young women and addressing sexual and reproductive health issues, and combating sexual harassment in the workplace, among others.
As gender advocates, Zoogah has indicated that they will not relent on their advocacy for the full implementation of the Affirmative Action Law, calling on the general public to collectively work towards an equal society for all.
