NEDCo embarks on revenue mobilisation exercise in two regions

This is according to Eric Boahen, Area Manager for NEDCo for the Upper East and North East Regions.

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has commenced its intended revenue mobilization exercise in the Upper East and North East Region.

This is according to Eric Boahen, Area Manager for NEDCo in the Upper East and North East Regions.

In an interview on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday April 10, 2025,  Boahen noted that the exercise, which started on Monday, aims to mobilize revenue to enable NEDCo pay power generation and transportation companies.

He emphasised that as a distribution company, they purchase power from the generation company, VRA and transport it through GRIDCo before selling it to customers, hence the need to mobilize revenue to pay back.

Boahen clarified that his outfit does not impose tariffs, saying it is the sole responsibility of the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC).

“The company buys power from generating stations and sells it to customers, but it does not have the power to determine the tariffs; PURC sets the tariffs, and NEDCo must justify any costs passed on to consumers.” He said.

He associated delays in payment of electricity bills to the 60% of customers using credit meters in the Upper East and North East Regions.

Boahen further stated that all NEDCo substations embarking on the exercise are to disconnect customers who are connected to the grid illegally or have defaulted in paying their electricity bills.
