Otto Addo names 23-man black stars squad for 2025 unity cup in London

The tournament will feature the Black Stars alongside Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica in a celebration of African and Caribbean football culture.

Head coach of the Ghana Black Stars, Otto Addo has announced a 23-man squad for the 2025 Unity Cup, set to be held in London this week.

The tournament will feature the Black Stars alongside Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica in a celebration of African and Caribbean football culture.

This call-up follows Ghana’s strong recent form, including crucial wins over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers results that have kept Ghana on top of their qualifying group.

Four locally-based players have earned spots in the squad, goalkeeper Benjamin Asare from Hearts of Oak, defender Razak Simpson of Nations FC, Kamaradini Mamudu from Medeama SC, and striker Kwame Opoku of Asante Kotoko.

Also receiving his debut call-up is Joseph Tetteh Anang, the former West Ham United goalkeeper who currently plays in Ireland for St. Patrick’s Athletic.

Youngsters Abdul Aziz Issah and Aaron Essel, who impressed for Ghana at the recent U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, have also been promoted to the senior squad.

Among the European-based debutants are FC Nordsjaelland’s Caleb Yirenkyi, who has been in superb form in the Danish Superliga, and Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini of Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.

Midfield options have been boosted with the return of Sunderland’s Abdul Samed Salis, who is back after an injury layoff, as well as Anderlecht’s Majeed Ashimeru. Up front, Felix Afena-Gyan makes a much-anticipated return to the national setup after nearly two years out.

The Black Stars are set to face Nigeria in their opening game at the GTech Community Stadium in West London on Wednesday, May 28. The winner will progress to the final on Saturday, May 31, where they will face either Trinidad and Tobago or Jamaica.

Players are expected to arrive in London early this week to begin final preparations under Otto Addo’s leadership, as Ghana looks to lift the Unity Cup and maintain momentum ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
