Pope Francis Dead at 88

The Leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis has died on Monday April 21,2025, aged 88, a day after making a much hoped-for appearance at Saint Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday.
According Cardinal Kevin Ferrell, the Vatican camerlengo, the Pontiff died at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.
“This morning at 7:35 am (0535 GMT) the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father,” said Cardinal Kevin Farrell in the statement published by the Vatican on its Telegram channel.
“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church,” Farrell said in the announcement.
Pope Francis had made a surprise appearance to bless thousands of people in St Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday, appearing on the loggia balcony over the basilica entrance for more than 20 minutes and imparting the apostolic blessing in Latin.
Francis treated well-wishers to a surprise popemobile romp through the piazza, drawing wild cheers and applause.
“Viva il Papa!” (Long live the pope), “Bravo!” the crowd shouted as Francis looped through the square in his open-topped popemobile and then up and down the main avenue leading to it.
