President Mahama Inaugurates New Armed Forces Council
The Council, tasked with advising the President on defense policy, military administration, and operational readiness, will be chaired by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

In a significant move to bolster Ghana’s defense governance, President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the newly constituted Armed Forces Council today, March 24, 2025.
The Council, tasked with advising the President on defense policy, military administration, and operational readiness, will be chaired by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
The Armed Forces Council is responsible for providing strategic leadership and guidance to the Ghana Armed Forces. Its members include Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Samuel, Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka. The other members are Daniel Addo, Fuseini Iddrisu, Nancy Dakwa Ampofo.
Under Vice President Opoku-Agyemang’s leadership, the Council is expected to focus on modernizing the military, enhancing personnel welfare, and strengthening national security policies.
The inauguration of the Council is anticipated to enhance defense governance and improve coordination between the government and the Ghana Armed Forces.
