Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam to be integrated into Big Push agenda – President Mahama

“I have asked the Finance Minister to commence the rescoping of the project and a revaluation of its various phases for inclusion into our Big Push infrastructural financing programme.” he stated

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that steps are underway to rope in the Pwalugu multipurpose dam project into the government’s Big Push infrastructure project agenda.

Speaking during his Thank You Tour of the Upper East Region on Thursday March 20, 2025, the President says he has directed the Minister for Finance to rescope the multipurpose dam project into the Big Push agenda.

“I have asked the Finance Minister to commence the rescoping of the project and a revaluation of its various phases for inclusion into our Big Push infrastructural financing programme.” he stated

President Mahama described the current state of the project as a crime scene due to the huge amount of monies allocated to the project by the past administration yet nothing significant has been undertaken at the project site indicating that the Attorney-General is currently studying documents on the projects uncovered by the Operation Recover All  Loot (ORAL) team.

“The project stands abandoned and has indeed become a crime scene with almost 12 million dollars of taxpayers’ money paid without any tangible work done, this is one of the hundreds of cases your son the Attorney General, Dr Ayine is studying as part of government’s Operation Recover All Loot policy.” he said.

The President further assured the people of the Region of his commitment to ensure the benefits of the Pwalugu multipurpose dam materialise, adding that work will commence on phase II of the Tamne irrigation project in the Garu-Tempane area and to implement the Nasia-Nabogo irrigation project to further unlock the regions agricultural potentials.

The President’s visit was part of his nationwide Thank You Tour to thank Ghanaians for the resounding victory in the 2024 general election, the tour continues on Friday in the Northern Region.
