STLO Foundation donates school desks and learning materials to Kologu-Zuo Basic School

The support forms part of the foundation’s fifth community outreach initiative, following similar exercises in the Western, Volta, Central, and Greater Accra Regions, all aimed at driving social change and enhancing educational equity.

Shoulder To Lean On Foundation (STLO Foundation), a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving access to education in rural communities and co-founded by individuals with legal backgrounds, has donated 80 dual desks as well as teaching and learning materials to the Kologu-Zuo Basic School in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region.

The support forms part of the foundation’s fifth community outreach initiative, following similar exercises in the Western, Volta, Central, and Greater Accra Regions, all aimed at driving social change and enhancing educational equity.

Valued at over GH¢50,000, the donation included 80 wooden dual desks, teaching and learning materials, textbooks, notebooks, dictionaries, teachers’ lesson notebooks, chalk, pens, pencils, and other essential supplies.

Jonathan Abotiwine Alua, a co-founder of the STLO Foundation, said the gesture aligns with their mission to inspire students to rise above the challenges that confront them.

“We have gone around the country in five years. Sometimes you see kids, and there is a mix of hopelessness and hope in their eyes. There are kids who don’t have as much privileges as some of us had while growing up, and it’s sad to see that people cannot dream because their dreams are hindered by circumstances. We aim to, in our own little way, inspire people.” He said.

Maxwell Adapesah, a representative of the Municipal Director of Education described the donation as a timely intervention, highlighting the burden of inadequate furniture and learning materials faced by schools in the municipality.

“Government alone is unable to meet the needs of schools. There are a lot of schools in the municipality without furniture, not to mention textbooks.” He noted.

He encouraged the school authorities and the community to safeguard the donated items and ensure they are used effectively for the benefit of the students.

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and community leaders of Kologu-Zuo expressed gratitude to the STLO Foundation and appealed to other individuals and organisations to support the school. In return, the community presented a goat and three guinea fowls to the team as a cultural symbol of appreciation.
