2026 budget has fallen short of expectations — Moses Amoah

He rgued that the government has not shown sufficient commitment to the goals reflected in the budget’s theme, "Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation".

Moses Amoah Abangba, the Navrongo Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy presented to Parliament, arguing that it failed to meet the expectations of many Ghanaians, particularly the youth and farmers.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday November 17, Abangba described the budget as uninspiring and disappointing

“When you go into the budget, it doesn’t engender confidence or trust. It doesn’t give hope to the young people of Ghana, most of whom voted this government into power. Farmers have been let down, private sector players, business operators and entrepreneurs were highly expectant, but the budget has rather discouraged them,” He said.

Abangba further argued that the government has not shown sufficient commitment to the goals reflected in the budget’s theme, “Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation”.

According to him, the policy direction does not align with the realities on the ground.

He also took issue with the government’s continuous attempt to blame the opposition NPP for the country’s economic difficulties. He urged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to take full responsibility for managing the state.

“People assessed the NPP and the NDC and concluded that the NPP did not do well, which is why they voted for you. So when you continuously remind the people of what the NPP did at the least opportunity, it is an attempt to run away from your own responsibility.” He added.

Abangba cautioned the NDC against celebrating what he described as “temporary gains” in the economy, especially regarding the recent decline in inflation.

“When you talk about single-digit inflation, this is not the first time we are recording that in this country. Remember what the NPP achieved prior to COVID-19, ours was lower than the current 8% they are touting, and we sustained it. So the NDC should not be in a hurry to celebrate, because anything is possible under this government.” He said.
