Navrongo Community Nursing Training College Students sensitize public on Meningitis

The exercise aims to contribute to health literacy in communities and advance the prevention and management of cerebrospinal meningitis.

Students of the Navrongo Community Health Nurses Training College are undertaking a sensitisation exercise on cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) as part of their Student Representative Council (SRC) week celebrations.

The exercise aims to contribute to health literacy in communities and advance the prevention and management of cerebrospinal meningitis.

Livingstine Tano, a student representative, highlighted the causes, symptoms, prevention, and control measures of meningitis on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Tano urged the public to prioritise prevention and control measures to ensure a safer community. He advised against direct contact with persons with meningitis, avoiding overcrowding during meningitis epidemics, and sleeping in well-ventilated areas.

He emphasised the need for vaccinations against meningitis, especially for children under five years old due to their vulnerable immune systems.

“For children under five years, they are very prone to the disease because their immune system is not well developed at that moment, so we must protect them through vaccination,” Tano added.
