Bugase welcomes amnesty for suspended NPP members, calls it a step towards grassroots unity

Bugase described the directive as a clear signal that the party leadership is listening to the concerns of its grassroots.

Francis Bugase, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, has welcomed the party’s decision to grant a general amnesty to all members who have been suspended or are facing disciplinary action.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday August 18, Bugase described the directive as a clear signal that the party leadership is listening to the concerns of its grassroots.

He indicated that the party’s decision was informed by inputs party members made to the Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye committee, which was tasked with investigating the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

“This decision shows that the NPP is a party that is ready to serve and listen to the grassroots because this decision is a decision that came out of some of the recommendations of the Mike Oquaye committee, which was brought from the grassroots to the national executives for a decision to be taken.”

He emphasised that the move demonstrates the NPP’s readiness to reconcile internal differences and regroup in preparation for recapturing political power in the 2028 elections.

“Bringing back party members who were suspended, sacked or probably moved out of the party is for the reorganisation and reunion to be complete.” Bugase added.

His comments come in response to a directive issued by the national leadership of the NPP, granting amnesty to all members with pending disciplinary cases.

The decision, contained in a statement dated August 16, 2025, and signed by the Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey, followed an emergency National Council meeting held on July 25.

The party explained that the amnesty is part of broader efforts to foster reconciliation and strengthen internal cohesion in the party.
