The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kassena Nankana West, Stephen Aeke Akurugo, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to sustaining interventions that enhance teaching and learning in schools across the district.
Akurugo said initiatives such as the School Feeding Programme and the Capitation Grant will continue to receive government funding to ensure children enjoy an effective educational experience.
He gave the assurance during a visit to Sirigu on Tuesday, September 2, as part of activities to welcome first-time pupils to school under the My First Day at School programme.
Addressing the young learners, the DCE encouraged them to take their studies seriously, stressing that education was the surest pathway to a prosperous future.
“I see future nurses, teachers, directors and even presidents among you. All you need to do to achieve this is to study hard and obey your teachers,” he told the pupils.
Akurugo acknowledged the need for more school facilities to improve access but noted that the situation had seen significant improvement compared to the past.
“Our schools may not be as ideal as we wish, but things are better today. In our time, we had to walk long distances and sometimes cross rivers just to get to school.” He recalled.
He further urged pupils to remain in school while government continues to address the challenges facing the education sector in the district.
