NPP Youth Organiser blames both politicians and electorates for monetisation of politics
Kasim explained that the negative perception that politicians fail to honour their promises has further encouraged electorates to sell their votes to the highest bidder during elections.
The Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Mandela Mubashir Kasim, has attributed the increasing monetisation of Ghana’s politics to the actions of both politicians and electorates.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday September 5, Kasim said the disturbing trend must be addressed holistically to prevent the dangers it poses to the country’s democracy.
“I don’t want to only blame the politicians who are the givers, but I also want to equally blame the receivers. We are all culprits, but it is the politicians who always spearhead it.”
“If I tell the people of Chiana-Paga that when I come to power, I will do this and that, people don’t look at that today. They are only looking at what they will get into their pockets.” He said

“If you give me more money, I will vote for you because if I don’t take the money and I vote for you, I may never see you again. So, there is this growing negative perception about politicians on the side of the voter.” He added.
He, however, urged politicians to stay true to their promises while advising electorates to choose leaders based on their commitment to development rather than financial inducements.
