NDC Communicator defends Attorney General’s outburst against GBA
Abada questioned the impartiality of the GBA, insisting that the Association must uphold the principles of accountability and fairness in national discourse.

Mercy Abada, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, has defended Attorney General Dominic Ayine’s criticism of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), describing it as justified.
According to her, the Association has demonstrated selective judgment on national issues, particularly regarding the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. She argued that the GBA failed to take a similar stance in the past when other high-profile officials were removed from office.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 17, Abada questioned the impartiality of the GBA, insisting that the Association must uphold the principles of accountability and fairness in national discourse.
“Ayine’s outburst is justified because the GBA has, to an extent, lost its impartiality on the discourse of national issues. The Association has the responsibility to hold the country to a higher rule of law and accountability, so we expect impartiality from them.” She said.
Abada further criticized the GBA for seeking support from international associations in its bid to resist the President’s attempt to remove the Chief Justice, describing the move as unnecessary and inconsistent.
“This is the same GBA that has written to the Bar Council of England and Wales and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association demanding that they call the President of Ghana to order. I find it strange because they didn’t even engage the President. In the past, they failed to express displeasure when the CHRAJ boss and the Electoral Commission Chair were removed in 2015 and 2017, but today they are writing to international bodies.” She noted.
She accused the Association of double standards and betraying the trust of Ghanaians by failing to act consistently in matters of national importance.
