AG’s press briefings necessary to check judicial partiality – Nyeya
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 23, Yen said the Attorney General’s public updates were important in light of what he described as the “seeming partiality” within the country’s judicial system.
A social advocate, Nyeya Yen, has defended the Attorney General’s decision to hold regular press briefings on corruption-related cases, describing it as a necessary measure to promote transparency and hold the judiciary accountable.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 23, Yen said the Attorney General’s public updates were important in light of what he described as the “seeming partiality” within the country’s judicial system.
“In terms of our court system, it is so partial that the public needs to know and the population is worried, especially over what has happened in the past eight years and other years,”
“So, the issue of the AG coming to inform the public about what he is doing is right.”he said
He, however, urged the Attorney General not to limit his accountability efforts to public communication alone but to also demonstrate firmness in court.
“While he is doing that, he should also be upfront at the court. It should be both ways, not just coming to tell the public so that we are happy, we talk about it, and nothing happens,” he added.
Nyeya further called on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to intensify its anti-corruption efforts, reminding the administration that its 2024 electoral victory was largely built on the promise to tackle corruption head-on.
He emphasized that the fight against corruption requires deliberate, collective effort from all citizens, particularly the youth, alongside the establishment of strong systems to support accountability and transparency.
“The fight against corruption can be won in the future, but it must take collective efforts and deliberate action from all citizens, especially the youth” he stressed.
