The Chiana Traditional Council, under the distinguished leadership of the Paramount Chief and President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Chiana Pio Pɛ Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam II, has announced Saturday January 3, 2026, as the date for this year’s Chiana Fao Festival Grand Durbar.
The much-anticipated event will take place in Chiana.
The Chiana Fao Festival is one of the region’s most cherished cultural celebrations, drawing thousands of people from home and abroad including government officials, development partners, tourists, and well-wishers annually. The festival celebrates the rich cultural heritage, unity, and resilience of the Chiana people.
Beyond its colourful pageantry, the festival also serves as a period of reflection and renewal, an opportunity to strengthen communal bonds and showcase the cultural pride of the people through music, drumming, dance, storytelling, and other vibrant performances.
A statement signed by Rusmond Didewuyem Anyinah, Secretary to the Chiana-Pio, said a series of exciting pre-durbar activities will precede the Grand Durbar, including traditional drumming and dancing, musical and fashion shows, as well as sporting events.
The statement added that in line with the Council’s commitment to development and cultural preservation, this year’s festival will also feature partnership dialogues with development partners. These discussions, the statement continued, aim to accelerate local development, foster unity, and promote the preservation of the area’s rich cultural identity.
The Traditional Council warmly extended an invitation to all citizens, development partners, tourists, friends of Chiana, and well-wishers to participate in what promises to be an unforgettable celebration.
“Together, let us celebrate our past, embrace the present, and look forward to a brighter future,” the Council said in a statement.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone to Chiana this festive and festival season to share in the joy, cultural glamour, and enduring spirit of the Chiana Fao Festival.”
