Elvis Figo Awonekai elected NPP Upper East Regional Chairman, pledges to lead party to victory

Awonekai secures 177 votes to become NPP Upper East Regional Chairman and calls for unity and renewed efforts ahead of the 2028 elections.

Elvis Figo Awonekai has been elected Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, following the party’s regional elections held in Bolgatanga on Saturday, August 15.

Awonekai, a former Regional Secretary of the party, secured 177 of the 332 valid votes cast, representing 53.3 per cent, to defeat four other contenders for the chairmanship position.

In his victory speech after the swearing-in of the newly elected regional executives, Awonekai pledged to hit the ground running and work towards rebuilding the party and positioning it for victory in the 2028 general elections.

“Time is not on our side; we have an election to win in 2028,” he said.

The new Regional Chairman stressed the need for unity following the election, urging party members to put the contest behind them and work together to achieve the party’s objectives.

“Let’s forge ahead with unity in the region. Let’s end divisions, and I strongly believe that the other elected executives are capable and experienced so that together we can steer the affairs of the party and reunite the rank and file of the party for the 2028 elections,” he said.
