Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources confirms death of NAIMOS taskforce member in Obuasi accident
In a statement released on Wednesday, November 19, and signed by the Ministry’s Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, the ministry stated that the incident happened while the team was on an anti-gamasey operation.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced the tragic loss of a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) following a fatal accident near the Obuasi Airport area on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
A team of five NAIMOS personnel was reportedly engaged in a major anti-galamsey operation in the enclave when their vehicle was involved in the crash. According to the Ministry, one officer died on the spot, while four others sustained serious injuries.
In a statement released on Wednesday, November 19, and signed by the Ministry’s Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, the ministry stated that the incident happened while the team was on an anti-gamasey operation.
“The incident occurred while the team was undertaking a major anti-galamsey operation aimed at curbing the menace of illegal mining within the enclave.”
The statement said the sector Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. He also wished the injured personnel a speedy recovery.
The injured officers are currently receiving medical attention at a health facility, with authorities assuring that they are being given the highest level of care.
The Ministry further disclosed that a full investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of all frontline operatives involved in the fight against illegal mining, assuring that the necessary support will be provided to affected officers and their families.
