Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly calls for public support in decongestion exercise
The Assembly says the exercise, backed by traditional authorities and security agencies, is aimed at improving sanitation, easing traffic congestion, and promoting orderliness across key areas of the municipality.
The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly has appealed to residents to cooperate with an ongoing decongestion exercise aimed at enhancing public safety and improving order within the municipality.
Members of a special task force spearheading the initiative say public cooperation is critical to the success of the operation, which is designed to ease traffic congestion, improve sanitation, reduce accidents, and promote general orderliness.
The exercise is being supervised by a multi-stakeholder task force comprising officials of the Municipal Assembly, Assembly Members, representatives of traditional authorities, and various security agencies.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, April 13, the Municipal Engineer and a member of the task force, Musah Paul, emphasized the importance of community support.
“We have engaged the citizenry extensively, and many have indicated their full support for the implementation of this important initiative.” He said.
He added that after extensive stakeholder engagement, the focus has now shifted to ensuring collective action to guarantee the success of the exercise.

Chairman of the task force, Felix Kondayire, who also represents the Navrongo Pio, noted that the initiative has the full backing of traditional authorities.
“This is a very important exercise. While I cannot speak to the level of involvement of traditional authorities in previous efforts, this time we are fully involved and committed to ensuring its success.” He stated.
Kondayire further assured residents that the exercise is not intended to undermine livelihoods but rather to address long-standing challenges for the greater good of the municipality.
“Our intention is not to disrupt anyone’s livelihood. Those who may be affected should consider the long-term benefits to the entire municipality.” He added.
The decongestion exercise will cover key areas in Navrongo, including the stretch from the Fire Service Station to the War Memorial Hospital through to the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), the Navrongo, Bolgatanga road, Navrongo Station, Cinema Palace Road, as well as the New and Old Markets and adjoining roads.
• As part of the exercise, the Assembly has outlined several directives:
• Prohibition of trading on roads and pavements
• Ban on daytime offloading of goods by heavy-duty vehicles; offloading is restricted to nighttime hours
• No parking of vehicles and motorbikes along roadsides
• Prohibition of selling goods using push trucks on roads, pavements, or within the lorry station
• Traders operating along roadsides at the New Market are to relocate to designated spaces within the market
• The Assembly reiterated its commitment to working with residents to ensure a safer, cleaner, and more organized municipality.
