Kassena Nankana West District records zero arm-robbery cases in six months

Addressing members of the District Assembly during the Third Ordinary Meeting on December 19, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gilbert Sulley, said the current crime situation in the district remains relatively calm, though challenges persist in other areas.

The Kassena-Nankana West District Police Command has revealed that it has not recorded any incidents of armed or unlawful robbery in the district in the past three to six months.

Addressing members of the District Assembly during the Third Ordinary Meeting on December 19, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gilbert Sulley, said the current crime situation in the district remains relatively calm, though challenges persist in other areas.

“For the past three or six months now, we have not recorded any unlawful robbery.” He stated.

However, ASP Sulley noted that the district continues to battle assault and stealing cases, with a significant number of the theft incidents involving cattle rustling, particularly within the Paga area.

“The cases we are facing currently in the district are assault cases and stealing cases, and the stealing cases involve cattle. These are the major issues we are facing in Paga,” he explained.

The police officer expressed concern about what he described as interference in police work, especially when suspects are arrested and influential individuals attempt to secure their release.

“Most of the time when we do arrest and come to the station, honourable members will come in and say, ‘He is my niece, he is my son, he is my uncle.’ I am pleading.” He said.

ASP Sulley made a strong appeal to Assembly Members to support law enforcement efforts, particularly in dealing with the rising cases of assault against women, which he described as alarming.

“Let detain the people from such a crime. Especially the assault cases on women is too much,” he stressed.
