The Mirigu Traditional Council has revealed that plans are underway to soon unveil a local vigilante group to address the persistent insecurity in the community.
The traditional leader in a remarks read on his behalf by his Secretary on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 formally presented their intention in a letter to the District Chief Executive of the Kassena Nankana West District Assembly, Stephen Aeke Akurugo.
The Chief noted that residents of Mirigu and adjoining communities have faced persistent armed attacks along the Mirigu–Navrongo road, leading to at least six deaths.
Speaking during an engagement between the DCE and the Mirigu Traditional Council, the Chief indicated that the insecurity on the road has taken a toll on businesses in the community.

“We have sought the help of the local vigilante group in Bongo to come and train our youth we will be recruiting for our own security,” the Chief said, as translated by one of his elders.
He further explained that the road serves as the shortest link to Navrongo from several communities, including Sirigu and Bongo.
Receiving the notice, the District Chief Executive acknowledged the role of traditional authorities in augmenting the government’s security efforts.
