Bissa Development Association seeks partnership with government to drive development
The association says stronger collaboration with government will help address key development needs such as water, education infrastructure, and road improvement in Bissa communities.
The National President of the Bissa Development Association, Shaibu Musah Gutaare, has called on government to deepen collaboration with Bissa communities to address their pressing development needs.
Speaking in a media interview during this year’s Zekula Festival on April 18 in Kulugungu in the Pusiga District, Gutare emphasized that the association is not seeking handouts but meaningful partnership to drive development.
“We are not asking for handouts from the government; we are asking for effective collaborations with us, so that they give us a listening ear to hear concerns of our development needs.” He stated.
He outlined key priorities including access to potable water, improved education infrastructure, and road development.
According to him, government must change its perception of community demands and instead see them as opportunities for partnership.
“Whenever we knock on their doors, they shouldn’t think we are coming to beg for handouts, but rather we are seeking to partner them… to let them know what our development priorities are.” He stressed.
He further noted that despite the success of this year’s festival, which attracted participants from countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Burkina Faso, security concerns in the Bawku area continue to affect participation levels.
“Despite the success of this year’s Zekula Festival, security concerns in Bawku are still affecting participation, as many visitors are hesitant to attend due to safety uncertainties.” he added.
The Zekula Festival is an annual gathering of the Bissa people aimed at promoting unity, culture, and development dialogue among communities across Ghana and beyond.
