Jogobia Kwera Fangabajei has successfully organized this year’s Kassena-Nankana Cultural Day, bringing together traditional authorities, government officials, cultural groups, and residents to celebrate and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Kassena-Nankana people.

The event, held at COS Park in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality on Sunday February 22 attracted participants who gathered to witness vibrant cultural displays and performances by women cultural groups and other traditional performers.

Invited dignitaries were the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Constituency, Simon Aworigo, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly, Faustina Akeyeom Abulu and the Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area, Pe Denis Aniakwo Balinia Adda.

Speaking to the media, the CEO of Jogobia Kwera Fangabajei, Issahaku Abakwile, explained the purpose of the programme.

“We want to make sure that the culture of Kassena-Nankana does not get lost. Our tradition is our identity, and we should not allow it to die. This event is about bringing our community together and keeping our cultural activities alive.”

He further emphasized the role of the youth in preserving tradition.

“If we, the elders, lead by example and go back to the tradition, the youth will follow. Unity and togetherness are at the heart of our culture, and that is what we are fighting for.”

Adding to this, one of the organizers, Labaran Fati, highlighted the efforts to revive traditional practices among younger generations.

“We have taken a step by involving women in traditional activities, but we also want to engage the youth so they can move away from modern entertainment and experience our culture. This way, the next generation will not lose touch with traditions like the lele dance, which was once a common and vital practice.”

The celebration forms part of a year-round cultural programme by Jogobia Kwera Fangabajei, with the main event held annually on the last Sunday of February.

The initiative aims to bring communities together while encouraging the preservation and promotion of the customs and traditions of the Kassena-Nankana people.
