War Memorial Hospital calls for identification of five unclaimed bodies in Navrongo mortuary

The statement, signed by Medical Superintendent Dr. Abraham B. Thigah, urged relatives of the deceased or anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in identifying the bodies

The War Memorial Hospital in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality has appealed to the public to help identify and claim five unidentified bodies currently at the hospital’s mortuary.

In a press release dated March 3, 2026, the hospital management said the appeal has become necessary due to limited storage capacity at the facility’s mortuary.

The statement, signed by Medical Superintendent Dr. Abraham B. Titigah, urged relatives of the deceased or anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in identifying the bodies.

“The management of the War Memorial Hospital wishes to inform the general public of Navrongo and its environs that there are five unidentified bodies at the facility’s mortuary.” The statement noted.

It added that the hospital would appreciate it if relatives could come, identify and collect these bodies in order to decongest the mortuary.

The release noted if the bodies remain unclaimed, the hospital will be compelled to dispose of them after a specified deadline.

“Management wishes to notify the general public that from Friday, 27th March, 2026, uncollected bodies will be disposed appropriately by the facility.” The statement said.

Records provided in the release show that the bodies were recovered from different locations within the municipality over several years.

One unidentified male body was found at UTAS on May 16, 2014, while an unidentified female body was discovered at Paga on August 18, 2024. Another unidentified male body was found in Navrongo on December 13, 2024.

The list also includes a male identified as Alhassan Adams, whose body was found in Navrongo on January 4, 2025. The fifth body is an unidentified male discovered at Mirigu on October 14, 2025.

Hospital authorities are therefore calling on families with missing relatives or anyone who may recognize the details provided to report to the mortuary of the War Memorial Hospital for identification before the stated deadline.
