NDC has made greater gains in fight against galamsey than NPP – Suwaidu
NDC communicator claims the party has made stronger progress against galamsey, citing policy interventions and enforcement efforts while calling for collective action.
The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Alhassan Suwaidu Abubakar, has defended his party’s record in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, asserting that the NDC has achieved more progress than the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, April 27, Abubakar maintained that the current administration’s efforts have yielded visible and commendable results in tackling the menace.
According to him, the NDC government has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at curbing illegal mining and restoring sanity to the sector.
“The NDC government has made more gains in the fight against galamsey compared to the NPP.” He stated.
Abubakar pointed to interventions such as the introduction of regulatory frameworks, environmental protection measures, and the deployment of task forces to clamp down on illegal mining activities.
He also highlighted initiatives like NAIMOS and Goldbod, which he said were designed to streamline operations within the mining sector and reduce illegal practices.
He stressed that while government policies are crucial, the fight against galamsey requires a collective national effort.
Galamsey continues to pose significant environmental and socio-economic challenges in Ghana, with stakeholders calling for sustained and coordinated action across political, institutional, and community levels.
