NDC has lost the fight against galamsey – NPP Constituency Secretary
NPP Secretary accuses the NDC government of failing to curb galamsey, citing weak enforcement and lack of clear strategy as illegal mining persists.
The Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Thomas Kwalase, has criticised the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing it of failing to effectively tackle illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, more than a year after assuming office.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, April 27, Kwalase argued that the NDC, while in opposition, created the impression that addressing galamsey would be straightforward, but has since struggled to deliver on that promise.
“The NDC has lost the fight against galamsey 15 months into government and they should admit it.” He stated.
According to him, illegal mining activities have intensified under the current administration due to what he described as the absence of a clear and effective strategy to combat the problem.
Kwalase further alleged that the situation has been worsened by what he perceives as a lack of strict enforcement and political will, claiming that some individuals within the governing party are engaged in illegal mining activities.
In a related development, he also criticised the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, over a recent apology to the Church of Pentecost following controversial remarks by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority against the church’s leadership.
Kwalase questioned the approach taken, suggesting that the individual responsible for the comments should have personally issued the apology.
