UG Archaeology Professor dismisses claim that Jesus’ mother Mary lived in Ghana for 40 Years
Archaeology professor debunks viral claim about Mary’s alleged stay in Ghana

A senior lecturer at the University of Ghana Archaeology department, Professor Wazi Apoh has strongly rejected viral claims suggesting that Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, lived in Ghana for 40 years.
The claim, which has been widely shared on social media, originated from a video reportedly recorded at the Volta Regional Museum alleged that Mary relocated to Kpando Agbenoxoe shortly after Christ’s birth and stayed there for decades.
But reacting to the circulating narrative, Professor Wazi Apoh dismissed the assertion, insisting that it has no basis in his research or any credible academic work.
“My research conducted in the Agbenoxoe Community from 1996 to date has never revealed any mention of this outrageous and false narrative. I have neither documented, written, nor published any such claim anywhere.” He said.
The archaeologist, who has spent years studying the Volta Basin and the history of the Akpini people, explained that his work focuses on archaeology, missionary activity, and local heritage not biblical migration stories.
“That is a lie, because in my research, I have never encountered that story before and I have never uttered that statement.” He added.
He warned that attributing such statements to him not only misrepresents his work but also risks misleading the public, particularly when such claims are associated with recognized cultural institutions.
